Finding My Style Outside of Interiors: A Surprising Spotlight in Delaware News Journal

Designing interiors? That’s my domain. Dressing myself? Let’s just say I typically leave that to the experts. While I can effortlessly layer textures, curate palettes, and create jaw-dropping interiors, my personal wardrobe is a masterclass in simplicity—think sweatshirts and denim on repeat. So, imagine my surprise (and absolute delight) when I was nominated and featured in Delaware News Journal’s special edition of Style File—a moment that was as unexpected as it was exciting.

A Moment of Style Recognition

For a designer whose main focus is transforming spaces into personal sanctuaries, stepping into the spotlight for my own personal style felt…different. Our interview and photoshoot took place in my home (which, by the way, is very much a work in progress—because when you’re busy crafting dream spaces for others, your own projects tend to take a backseat). The commute was grueling—I barely made it from the kitchen to the living room—but the experience? Absolute magic.

The photographer made the shoot fun, easy, and completely natural. We laughed, we posed, we talked about my style philosophy (which, for the record, is largely built on clean lines, classic pieces, and the occasional moment of surprise—sound familiar?). Who knows, this whole “dressing up” thing might just make more frequent appearances in my life.

Style and Design: A Common Thread

As I reflected on the experience, I realized just how much personal style and interior design overlap. The way you feel in your clothes is just as important as the way you feel in your home. Both should be effortless, elevated, and curated to reflect who you are—whether that’s through a beautifully tailored blazer or a perfectly designed living room. My approach to design has always been about creating layered, luxe, and inviting spaces that feel like home, and in a way, that’s exactly what great fashion does, too.

For my clients in Kennett Square, Wilmington, Philadelphia, and beyond, creating a home that feels as good as it looks isn’t just about aesthetics—it’s about crafting an experience. Much like selecting the perfect ensemble for an important event, designing a home is about capturing the essence of who you are and bringing it to life in a way that is both functional and breathtaking. It’s why our clients, who lead incredibly full lives balancing career, family, and travel, trust us to deliver interiors that feel like a retreat from the outside world—an effortless blend of sophistication and comfort.

The Luxury of Intentional Living

At Nile Johnson Interior Design, we believe that luxury isn’t just about opulence—it’s about intention. It’s about crafting spaces that allow you to move through life seamlessly, whether that’s entertaining in a stunning yet approachable dining room, unwinding in a perfectly curated bedroom, or stepping into a home that feels like an instant exhale.

Many of our clients—C-suite executives, entrepreneurs, and top-tier professionals—spend their days making high-level decisions. When they step into their home, they want a space that doesn’t ask more of them but instead gives them exactly what they need: a place to recharge, reconnect, and enjoy life’s finer moments. Much like getting dressed for a major event, designing your home should be a process that leaves you feeling empowered, confident, and completely yourself.

Elevate Your Everyday

If you’ve ever walked into a luxury hotel and thought, I wish my home felt like this, or admired the effortless elegance of a well-dressed person and thought, I wish I could embody that same confidence in my space, we’re here to tell you—you absolutely can. And you should. Because your home, like your personal style, should be a reflection of your best self.

This Style File feature was a reminder that sometimes, stepping outside of your comfort zone (or, in my case, my favorite hoodie) leads to the most rewarding moments. And if I can embrace a little extra polish in my wardrobe, imagine what we can do for your home.
