One Room Challenge: Week 2

THIS WEEK

is all about the magic! Boxes are starting to arrive, and the creative juices are flowing. If you are just joining me on the beautiful and challenging journey of the ORC, then let me give you a quick refresher.

For this challenge, I am designing my bedroom. The space I have been overlooking on the list of design priorities in my life for quite some time now.  Once completed this bedroom will be a place where I can go to relax; turn the music up, and turn the world off.

Work-Life balance for most of us has always been a juggling act that no matter how hard we try, we just can’t seem to perfect. And these days with social distancing and work-from-home orders still in effect, the line between home and work has never been more blurred. This is why now more than ever, implementing and managing a self-care routine is so important. We may never achieve a balance between our personal and professional lives, however, we can establish solid boundaries between the two. Check out last week’s post for more on the before and the ORC!

It’s time

for me to pull together my design concept for my space, and the ideas are overflowing! In order to organize this highly detailed and highly creative part of the project, I usually break it down into two parts. And I’ll approach this challenge the same way.

The first part

is the preliminary design, which is like a roadmap. It is the functional origin from which the design will grow.

Part Two

The Schematic Design phase consists of a fully conceptualized plan for the project. Basic drawings, color schemes, mood boards, select critical fabric samples & conceptual furniture images are all part of the jam.

Stay tuned as we continue on this exciting and beautiful path to completion, and follow along as these twenty Featured Designers take you through the entire process of designing a space over six weeks. They’ll share professional tips and tricks for planning, researching, and selecting elements to help you create a unique, custom room design.
